Trus ada band yang kyk blood brothers, a7x, saosin, ffaf, etc etc etc.. you know, the sort of music kids in black-obscure-band-tees listen to. Ini yg bisa dibilang band2 mainstream alternative rock. Kalau menurut wikipedia, alternative rock tuh asalnya dari band2 yg gak mau main lagu2 glam rock kyk poison and on jovi. contoh awalnya ya, nirvana, soundgarden (tapi soundgarden masih ada metal2nya). terus dari nirvana, berkembang jd band2 alt rock 90an, kyk lit + 9749174982 band alt rock yg dirotasiin di mtv selama akhir taun 90an.

nah, yg jadi menarik adalah evolusi ke-mainstream-an sebuah genre musik. contohnya, alternative rock tuh genre underground yg tiba2 jd popular mainstream rock di akhir 90an, ngalahin band2 'rock' kyk metallica dan bon jovi di billboard. terus pas akhir dan awal taun 2000, band2 nu metal kyk limpbizkit, korn +i129319379 band yg:
punya rapper + turntable + gitar 7 strings + kostum + rambut spike/gondrong
jadi populer, dan band2 alt-rock jd gak kedengaran lagi. well, except for creed..
so anyway, beberapa taun kemudian, terjadi sebuah fenomena dimana band2 kyk atreyu dan a7x punya album yg debuting at the top 100 di billboard. tanpa kita sangka, mereka yg tadinya relatively unknown jd populer bgt.

flashback to 2004, gw dulu suka bgt sama yg namanya ffaf and a7x. dan dulu gw merasa aneh, soalnya di antara tmen2 gw, cuman gw yg dengerin musik 'emoh'. ya isitilahnya, kalo ngeliat anak emo di mall, langsung teriak2 "wahai sodara!"
tapi setaun kemudian, rasanya emo tuh jd lebih prevalent, lebih umum, dan lebih memasyrakat. kenapa bisa jd kyk gitu? karena popularitas cowok2 ganteng di a7x ? well i woudnt say that theyre handsome.. but some girls like to think otherwise. terus apa lagi, fall out boy? nah, theyre not really emo, fashion-wise. but, aha! PANIC! AT THE DISCO. kyknya ini yg ngebikin fasion rambut panjang dan kaos ketat jd populer bgt. or maybe it's something else..

anyhoo, points aside, jd maksud gw itu, musik2 kyk ffaf jd lebih mainstream, albeit gak sepopuler band2 kyk wolfmother ato rhcp dan muse, yg lebih masuk di niche General Mainstream.
Terus kenapa gitu loh? Ya, lu bisa expect band2 yg lu bisa dengerin di mtv ato radio di masa depan untuk punya nama2 yg obscure.. kyk, say "The Flying Cocks of a Herpes Filled Insecticide Throat"

or whatever.
