Mein fuhrer, I can walk!!!
Couldn't sleep. I read this article on Kubrick's movies. In wikipedia, of course.
Warning: Spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk.
Gw udah ntn dua film Kubrick; Full Metal Jacket sama Dr. Strangelove. FMJ gritty bgt, settingnya di perang Vietnam. Dr. Strangelove juga roughly around the same period, di pertengahan cold war. FMJ dibagi jadi dua act, act pertama settingnya di marine boot camp, act kedua di vietnam. Act pertama lebih ke arah psikologi dan efek samping dari military training buat org2 yg naive dan gak biasa dengan disiplin militer. here we can see the transformation of a naive, good natured man to a brutal, psychopatic killing machine. Oh iya, soalnya dia fuck up pas lagi ngapain gitu, jadinya satu unit dihukum.. terus pada nyalahin dia. Terusss, ni prajurit jadi stres abis, dan suatu hari dia ambil senapannya, and he shot himself in the mouth. First act selese. Fast forward ke second act. Yg ini plotnya straight forward, jadi cuman nunjukin keganasan perang dari perspektif prajurit2 itu sendiri. The second act doen't interest me as much as the first one, but what's striking is the final scene, revealing that the 'sniper' (that killed almost an entire platoon) is actually a young vietnamese girl. One memorable scene is also the "me love you long time" scene. Pas kemarin gw nonton Miss Saigon (which you should watch, btw. Tiket 60 dolar, dijual di ticketek), the opening scene reminds me of that particular scene from FMJ.
Dr. Strangelove? Anyway, one point that i would like to raise from this movie is the ever-scary threat of a nuclear war. I guess it's not relevant to me or my friends. After all, we grew up after the cold war ended, and the only real nuclear threat is if during y2k, an american sub accidentally launches a nuke or something. Or suitcase bombs, carried by terrorist. But really, nowadays we're more concerned about the most.. trivial things. I mean, what are the odds that you're going to get blown to pieces by a home-made explosive? Statistically speaking, depending on where you live (well, I live in Melb), the chances of dying in a terrorist attack is lower than being in a car-related accident/incident. And that goes to even the people that doesn't even have a car.
Kayak gw.
Kalau dipikir2, statistik tuh kejam juga. Kalau probability gw meninggal ketika naik mobil lebih tinggi dari probability gw mati di kecelakaaan pesawat, gw bakalan pilih naik pesawat kemana2. I'm in favor of having flying cars. Speaking of which, Back to the future 2 nunjukin kalau pada taun 2010, mobil2 udah bisa terbang. I feel cheated. Dammit, I feel cheated..
Bicara ttg masa depan, gw tadi pas baca artikelnya Kubrick, jadi pingin beli dvdnya 2001: A Space Oddysey deh. Kayaknya kickass abis tuh film, and plus, it's Kubrick's. Btw, gw baru tau kalau dia udah meninggal >_<
Yeah, I know.. shame on me.
Tadi di Uni gw iseng buka2 Maddox. Ada quote yg kocak abis: "I recently installed a breaking news program, that would inform me the latest and most important news in the world..but what do I get? Actor XXY got arrested for drunk driving? Breaking news indeed"
Modern day Gods. Very weird.
Besok gw ada kelas jam 10. And oh, btw, ini jam 1 pagi, so technically this entry is for the 4th of April. Besok sore palingan gw isi lagi. That means, I'll have two entries for 4th of April.
..
Ok.. so?
For great justice,
