Alexisonfire live in concert. Woo hoo!

I just got back from the city. I went to the Billboard Theatre in Russel St. ; Alexisonfire, Moneen and Blindspott are touring Australia, and they are going to be performing here in Melbourne for the 23rd and 24th of May. So I went to see these guys live at Billboard and it was awesome.

Blindspott was the opening band, and their music reminds me of old-school Staind. It's a bit nu-metalish. Kind of anachronistic if you think about it. Anyway, I was lining up for an Aof t-shirt when they were performing so I didn't get to pay too much attention to what they were doing.

Next up was Moneen. They were intense, it's quite unlike what I expected. The band members, except for the drummer, were jumping around everywhere, and can still maintain cohesion in their music. Intense, intense, intense. Intense-flavoured post-rock music, that's what this is. Think Circa Survive meet Sigur Ros on speed. Note to self: Download their albums.

Update: I just finished downloading Moneen's The Red Tree. Man, what an album. I can't stop listening to it from start to finish.. there's no break between the songs, it's like one huge track. I'm going to write a review soon. And again, I know nobody goes here, but what the hell, this album rocks and I'm sure as hell I'm going to tell the world about it.

And finally, there was the closing band and the main act of tonight's show: Alexisonfire. This five-man group from Canada brought with them hard-hitting rock music with sounds ranging from hardcore, metal, punk and post-rock. They were friggin sweet. Dallas Green, the guitarist/vocalist was exceptional. He hits the right tones at the right time. The lead vocalist, George, was just plain devious with his throat-scream. Funny thing is, he speaks like a man on helium.. when he's not screaming.

Aof was great. But not as intense as Moneen in their performances. The crowd was nasty though. It's like a whirlpool in the middle of the venue. I had to get out of the floor after the first song before I drown. I watched the rest of the show from a relatively comfy spot in the back. It was high enough for me to see most of the stage. I wish I brought my camera though, because I saw a couple of guys taking photos and videos. And there was this guy with an SLR, but I bet he was with the press or something, because I called the venue this afternoon and they said I couldnt' bring my SLR in.. meh. I guess I could hide it, but it's too damn big.

I didn't have any regrets though, it was a kickass show and I enjoyed the music and the intensity of it all. By the end of the night, I was sweating my ass off and was practically dehydrated from not drinking anything since the show starts. When the show was over (the last song was played by Alexisonfire and Moneen.. two bands on one stage. That was fucking sublime), I went outside, even though the rest of the guys wanted to take photos with the band. I'm not a huge fan of taking photos with band.. I used to be, but then I realised that I'm more thirsty for a drink rather than the chance to hang out with the band members.

So I went outside, ran to Hungry Jack's and bought a cola. Well, actually, the guy standing the next to me paid for it. What a guy.

Overall, great night out. I'm off to bed, I need some rest for tomorrow's test [nooooo..]
