My screw-up

It's ironic that I have found enough time for myself now that uni has start again. Turns out I have a nice timetable with a couple of days that starts at midday, so that gives me plenty of space for staying up a few hours before going to bed.

Actually, these past few weeks I made a couple of decisions that results in me possibly having more free time during the evenings and weekends.

I took a break from Nando's, after a couple of incidents that weren't entirely caused by me. Well, I could have prevented one from happening.. but it's a bit unlikely. So what did happen? A customer found an insect inside a chicken wrap. It was in the lettuce, and it was so small, you couldn't spot it when preparing the wrap. This one scared the hell out of me. For a second there, I thought the customer was going to call his lawyer and sue the place. That would be messy, with possibly thousands of dollars in compensation.

Something else happened to the chicken breasts. For some reason, it wasn't cooked enough when I prepared it on the flat top (when you buy something at a fast food place, it's most likely that your meal has been pre-cooked hours or even days before you order it; this is to avoid fuck-ups during food preparation and obviously, to save time; and all this, despite what every other fast food is trying to tell you: "we serve fresh food". Sort of, but not really)

So anyway, a customer complained about how the chicken breast inside a burger is still raw in the middle and again, my section got the receiving end of the shift-runner's blame-cannon, even though it is likely that it's the oven's fault (well, you can't really blame an oven, but you can blame the oven's operator, which is always the day-manager).

This was my first screw-up. By the end of the night, I knew that I had made the right choice by choosing to take a break. Me being there was starting to look like a bad sign.

Starting from this week, I'll have more free time during weekends. I guess it's a good thing too. PPIA is starting to get on my nerves. I'm leading two separate teams for two separate events and finding the right balance between those can be hectic sometimes.

Now I have my weekends back, I can finally do those things that keep me sane (and happy): LANing with mates until 4 in the morning and sitting on the couch watching sitcom dvds.
