I found this cool video at Youtube. I praise Indonesian Dangdut culture because of the sheer amount of indecency and infinite eroticism. I love dangdut. Well, not really. Not until I found this video of a dangdut concert.



Hmm. Conservative Muslim community in a Muslim-majority country, huh? I LOL'd. Seriously, these girls would be stoned to death in Saudi Arabia.. if they danced in public. But for their masters in the privacy of the harems, I bet there are tons of these kinds of girls there, dancing away and screwing their masters. I love hypocrisy.

No pok for you!

After I got back from work, I spent the rest of the day crouching in front of the computer screen, doing my first and second favorite things. A few hours later, twilight sets in, and my stomach started to rumble, so I went outside to find dinner. And wouldn't you know it, it was foggy outside. It was friggin awesome. You could only see about 50 metres in front of you, and the air was moist. All that water vapour also refracts the light from the streetlamps, so everything looks hazy. Almost like from a film-noir movie .. with colours.

This one is taken at Swanston street when I was walking towards the city. I was going to take some photos of the Yarra, but then I figured I couldn't see shit anyway in this weather. I uploaded the rest of tonight's photos to my flickr.

Either you find this amusing or extremely offensive. But you gotta admit, the guy was pretty angry. Nay, pissed. Maybe he needs to taste the goodness that is of raw, pork meat.

Lashing out at Uwe Boll and his movies is good for your health. Sort of.

I fucking hate lethargy. I'm still suffering from sleep-debts that I've accumulated over the last few days. I can't watch tv without spacing out. It's almost as bad as going to a boring lecture on a Friday afternoon. Basically I've been drifting in and out of being asleep and half awake since this morning. No, I'm not functioning very well today.

I blame this on my LAN + Youtube session that I had last night/this morning.

I don't know if you know who Uwe Boll is. He's a movie director from Germany. Boll likes to make movie-adaptations of video games. Good video games? Not all, but some. Does Uwe Boll make good movies? No. I watched the last 20 minutes of Bloodrayne, one of his video-game-to-movie-crap. By the end of it, I was ready to hurl myself at the tv. If I ever had to destroy my friend's Foxtel device, blame it on The Great Boll.

So last night I saw trailers for a couple of Boll's movies.



This one is from a movie called Postal. Based on a (shit) video game. It actually looks reasonably funny. I guess it could make me laugh when I watch it. Sort of. Maybe Boll has found his film-making niche. Who knows.

Standing in contrast is the trailer to a movie called Dungeon Siege. Again, based on a game. I like the game. I like Dungeon Siege. I don't see why this douchebag has to ruin it by making such a shit movie out of it. But hey, who knows, right? Meh. Just go watch the trailer, and wait for these (shitty) lines uttered by the ill-casted characters:
"Burn it. To the. Greound"
"I am, your Keinnng!!"
In The Name of The King: Dungeon Siege has Burt Reynolds in it. So what? Shoot, I bet if you cast Eric Bana in it, the movie will still suck. "In the Name of The King", eh? See, even the title blows.

You know what happens when somebody writes a negative-review of a Boll movie? The Bollmeister himself challenged the reviewer to a one on one boxing match. I kid you not. Here, watch this. See that bald guy? That's the Boll. Hmm. I can sort of see this happening to me. Getting pwned by the Boll and all.

What a deuche. But he's a necessary evil in an otherwise pseudo-witty pretentious-movies-saturated scene. Read: Half Nelson / any other movies playing at an Arthouse cinema in Melbourne. Hmm.

ANZAC, Dandenong Suicides + Links

This article blog entry has been nominated to be checked for its neutrality.

In my previous entry I talked about the suicide of two high school girls in Dandenong, Victoria. It made the headlines today; advocating stricter supervision on the internet activity of teenagers, along with more 'hugs and kisses' from parents. As I read the article, I couldn't help but to think of Myspace's (and other social networking sites) role in this incident. Net anonymity encouraged more 'liberal' sharing of ideas, and it's easier to find those with the same interest as you do. Putting this in context of the suicides, Myspace was a boon for the girls; Either one could encourage the other to go in a certain direction, and in this case: Self harm, and eventually suicide.

In yesterday's entry, I suggested that noone took their suicide notes seriously. Turns out I was (somewhat) right. Myspace's emo subculture is saturated with references to depression and acts of self harm. It's not uncommon to see blog entries titled suicide notes.

The morning after they posted their blog entries, they packed their bags and go to school. I wonder what it must've felt like, to experience this vicious cycle. If this person is depressed, then wrote it down in her blog entry as an apparent suicide note, yet noting that none of her myspace friends have replied to this blog entry, she would be even more depressed, and the cycle continues. The vicious cycle of attention seeking ego monsters. And I believe that at the most basic level, we are all attention craving ego monsters.

Whatever. That's my 2 cents on the issue, now moving on..

- In other news, Borin Yeltsin died today at the age of 76. He played an important role in the downfall of the Soviet Union, thus causing the rise of the US as the world's single hyperpower. Also known for his role in helping Russia to adopt the principles of 'the West' and further disintegrating the socialist structure of the Soviet Union.

Combined degree, Facebook + Youtube links

It's been a while since I wrote one of those horribly long, pretentious, droning wall of text that I'd call a 'blog entry'. Well, here are a couple of reasons that I think justifies my absence:

- Most of my classes are until 6 in the evening.
- My free times are better spent on watching porn, playing video games and eating cookies. Nah, jokes. I would rather spend my 5+ hours after Uni cooking my dinner (conventional wisdom states that if you don't eat, you will die. That's a pity) and actually, eating it. Surprises. I also have this thing for a videogame called Medieval 2 Total War. Which is a blast to play. And oh, I do my assignments. Occasionally. If I'm in the mood. Which is never.

So I noticed that I've actually been writing entries into my blog during weekdays. Is it my subconscious mind? Was I possesed when I decided that I would rather spend 1+ hour writing an entry rather than studying? Then I realized that I have this need, this urge, this primal addiction to write incoherent, rambling, text in a blog that everyone can read. Yet this blog is as empty as an upclass bookstore in Jakarta during weekdays. Which is pretty empty.

Maybe people are discouraged by the massive wall of text that forms the bulk of my blog. Or maybe there isn't enough sexually suggestive things. What will happen if I insert a photo of me flashing my.. I don't know, chest?

That would be uncool. Me with my one pack. Ugh.

My doubtful masculinity aside (Nah, jokes. I'm as manly as Steven Seagal. It is true), I do have some things to write in this entry.

- As described in the description of The Author (at the top of this page), I go to Melb Uni for.. Uni. This is my 3rd year. I'm doing Geomatic Engineering and Science as a combined degree. I'd usually say *clears throat* "I'm doing double" - It makes non-Melb Uni people go "Ooooh Ahhh" when I said that. But it's common for Melb Uni students to, how do I say this.. to add an extra bacon or cheese to their sub. Or upsize their McMeal. Or go Large on their Zinger combo. Adding another degree as a 'minor' into your 'major' is common in Melb.

Why? Well, think of it this way. Here's an example, although I may sound ignorant, but at least you'll get the idea. You graduate with a degree in Commerce, majoring in Finance and Accounting. You get a job at a bank. Then the economy downturned, and you got sacked. So you applied for another job at a financial consultancy. They liked the fact that you are an H1 student at Melb. But they didn't like that you are only specialized in Finance and that you can't do a particular statistical modeling; a requirement for analysts. You got the job, but you wouldn't get too far ahead of everyone else, because you couldn't look at your work from a different perspective. A perspective that only a combined degree of Commerce and Mathematics can do, for example.

Another example: Boeing is hiring engineers for their 2009 graduate program. 2 candidates: One has a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, and the other one has a B.MechEng and a Bachelor of Science in Physics. This looks like an easy choice.

Although students will want to specialize in something, and not generalize in a particular field, there's nothing wrong with specialising in two fields instead of one. It is said that being a generalist will do harm for your future career. I.e. a specialist is always going to be in high demand, because they are the only ones who can do their work properly.

I do think that it all comes down to how you want to live your life. Do you want to go to uni, graduate, get a job and start a family? Or do you want to go to uni, graduate, do masters, then find a job? I know this is a trite statement, but there's nothing straight about life.

A generalist will usually need to go to a graduate school to choose a specialty. A specialist can find a job as soon as they graduate, but they will be stuck in a niche unless they are really good at what they do and can excel to get to the top. But let's face it, when you're specialising in one thing, chances are, thousands more are doing the same thing. Yes, it's called competition.

And how do you rise above the competition? Do a double, or do a generalist course, and prove to your future employer that you are jack of all trades and are a quick learner. Well, something like that.

So what should YOU do? Most of the people I know are from Indo, so they'll probably go back home after graduation. In Indo, you just point your Degree at the recruiter. It is said that a degree certificate coming from an overseas Uni can hypnotize an HR officer..

But I'm planning to stay here, so this is something that I actually have to think about. Hence, my transfer to a combined, *coughs* double degree. Halright!

- I joined Facebook last night. Facebook. I was doing some research on the marketing strategies of social networking sites, and the Wiki article on Facebook was tempting me to join. So after shaking hands with the devil, I browsed and browsed the 'Melbourne Uni 2009' network *cough*was looking for this girl*cough* . I found a couple of 'standard-myspace' profiles. You know, with the girl on girl action and photos of drunken incidents.

I was divided between exclaiming: "*gasp!*So indecent!", "*smirks*Awesome.." and "Poor, just poor quality. I've seen better"

I ended up closing the page while shaking my head in dismay over the state of indecency of girls in present day Australia.

..

Nah, jokes. I couldn't get away from that profile. It has a perv-guy magnet.

Dammit.

Heroes, Neighbours + Youtube links and other stuff

- Halright. I just finished watching the 18th episode of this little show called Heroes. The show is going to be on hiatus until the 23th of April (in the US). Have you ever had that feeling after you watch a tv show that you can be like one of the characters? Like for example, I started to think (for a while) that I could fly, throw spoons at others telekinetically, create a nuclear chain reaction, and after all that is done, be home just in time for dinner. Or after watching Friends, and thinking that you actually have a chance at picking up that hot girl at Union House. You know, just like Joey. Or, I don't know, after watching Scrubs and thinking that maybe you could resuscitate people. Using only your hands.

I have this hooby (more like a guilty pleasure) to watch American tv shows. I've been addicted to the OC, Friends, Scrubs, Lost and now Heroes. I'm starting to see myself as an American. A citizen of the US of A. I'm beginning to enjoy eating KFCs and an unhealthy amount of preservatives-coated snacks. I love the US. Go Bush!

Actually, I came to realize that my addiction to American TV shows and KFCs is not healthy. I think I should start a diet routine. Like going to the gym everyday and doing cardio or whatever you kids with your celebrity fitness lifetime membership card and your hip gym clothes do nowadays. Or I could eat Subway a lot more. Oh wait, that's still American. (...) What's here that's not American? Well, I guess that Italian restaurant down the road is not American.. what? Domino's is American? Dammit! But back on the topic, to solve my addiction to American tv shows (I still don't get it, maybe Heroes have preservatives on it. Or something that makes you want to watch them over and over again), I should probably start watching Neighbours, Australian Idol, Aussie Got Talent and Channel 10 more often.

- The only thing good about Neighbours is that actually some of the female cast are hot. It's drool worthy, to say the least. I would mute the tv and let my eyes do the watching. Nah, jokes. I'm not that sexist or perverse. Or am I? Halright! By the way, I do think that at least one attractive cast member is necessary to maintain a consistent show rating. "omg, DUH?!"-ness aside, if you're a guy and have nothing to do in the late afternoon. You can turn on channel 10 and start .. ah nevermind.

LAN gaming, the big picture and Youtube links

- As I walked to Caulfield station after an intense 6 hour session of LAN gaming, I realized that now I have a better endurance for gaming than 7 years ago. There was a time when I could only play CS for 3 hours before getting a headache and throwing up all over the place. Sadly, nobody would bother to clean up the mess, so you got Warnets closing down all over Jakarta. And all because of me puking all.. over the place.

- When my friends and I played Company of Heroes last night (a 2+ hour session, which ended in a stalemate. But I got the highest score as we finished, so technically I won. Haha), I saw that each one of us used different tactics. I tend to go on the defensive and construct 88s (uber-guns, pretty much can kill anything - unless bombed or artillery'd) at strategic places (e.g. bridges, hills). While my opponents, both are Business students at Monash, turtled up and built massive amount of Anti-tank and machine guns - obviously, to counter my teammate's Tiger tank assault (uber-tanks, can only be destroyed by lots of anti-tank guns). One thing I noticed from this match is how good they are at managing their resources; none of them ever went economically kaput. They have so much money, they just kept on spamming anti-tanks to kill my Tiger. Uncool.

- So, what happened? Well, I'm not so sure, but I think those guys were better than me at handling the micromanagement of things, like resources and allocation of troops. Maybe that's what they're taught at Uni, to think critical and to look at the details. I tend to look at things in a larger sense, like in a 'big-picture'. Most of the times I wouldn't bother with the details. I like to look for trends, patterns, cause and effect and you know, things in a larger sense.

- But I wouldn't say that I never pay attention to the details. Last summer, I spent 6 weeks tracing vector lines of underwater gas pipes and cables and creating a map of a gas and oil field north of Java. It was my job to see that each and every one of those objects goes where they're supposed to be. I had a list of all the cables and pipes in the region (i think it was 24 Km x 16 Km, 400 km square of nautical space) , and there were like, hundreds of them. I'm not shitting you, it's one of the most tedious and mind-blowingly fucked up thing I've ever worked on. But I was actually good at it. Looking at the details, knowing where things are and if they're misplaced. I don't know if that classifies me as an office-grunt, or a data entry slave (no offense to anyone). In terms of my life in general, sometimes I like to see things in a large scale; maybe too large. It gets to me sometimes, forgetting the small, yet very important things, and looking too far ahead. I wonder if I can slow things down.

Have you ever wondered what it'd be like to be.. someone else? Or, to be somewhere else. I always wondered what it'd be like to get on a train, and just pick a random destination. And go.. somewhere. I had this crazy idea once. I wanted to take a train to Sydney. By myself. I have a camera now, so at least there's some justification to this idea.

This is going to be a very quick entry.

- I was going to finish my assignment today, yet when I finished eating my lunch, and while reading the newspaper, I came to realize that I didn't want to spend 2+ hours in front a computer, looking at correlation graphs and cloropleth maps. Nay.

- As I walked the curved pathways leading up to the University Oval, I couldn't help but to think what I would be like right now if I live at Ormond college. About halfway through my first year, I decided that I had enough of staying in a homestay place. I was bored, and impulsively, I asked for a registration form to move to Ormond. It didn't happen though. I figured that moving out is not going to be that easy. Plus, the monthly rent scared the shit out of me. It still does.

Anyway, Ormond college is pretty fancy, archi-wise. It's the sort of thing you'd expect to see in a Harry Potter movie. Massive, gothic exterior, and dim, musty western European look on the inside.













- It's been one hour since I uploaded those photos. Cooked dinner, ate my dinner, read Russel Peters' quotes, laughed my ass off, and finally sitting down in front of the computer and realizing that I need either coffee or .. other form of stimulants to write something. Anyway, there's so much things you can do in 60 minutes. Write that down.

- Halright. I just got back from John Mayer's second concert here in Melbourne. I went to the first one back in November. Good stuff. John is a fantastic musician, and with a band that captured his style of playing well, you have one hell of a show to watch. I didn't watch the opening band, but I did came just in time for the main act. It was splendid. I even bought a poster. For 20 bucks. Fascists.

When I got home, I couldn't fight the urge to write another entry in this blog. But during the tram ride here, I came to the realisation that my blog is a rotting pile of shit; insignificant compared to other people's blogs. This blog is egocentric, a fulfillment of my own God-complex, egoistical, crude and extremely rude to people of different ethnicities, religions, gender and beliefs. The entries here are self-centered and doesn't discuss 'smart ideas'. I am too enveloped in my own niche. In my own habitat. And this blog fucking sucks.

.. But of course, I don't give a crap what other people think. This blog rules. I am extremely talented, gifted in the art of writing, supremely knowledgeable. Second only to Shakespeare. Brengsek bgt ya gw?
Gw tau isi blog gw gak sedalem blog2 org lain. Itu juga karena gw sebenernya punya kerjaan di luar blogging. Gw kuliah 20+ jam per minggu, dan ditambah jam di lapangan dan di lab, bisa nambah 10 jam lagi. Lah kok gw bisa sempet nulis di blog ini? Gini lo, kalo lu perhatiin, gw hanya update blog ini kalo gak sore (abis selese kelas), atau gak pagi2 buta, abis belajar. Gw bisa aja ngebahas tentang psikologi org: Kenapa org ini begini, kenapa org ini bisa begitu, kenapa temen saya mandul.. etc etc. Tapi gw rasa brainpower gw harus dipake buat hal2 yg lebih penting.

Hence, isi blog ini kebanyakan membahas hal2 yg kurang mengasah intelegensia. Gw suka ngebahas ttg berita2 yg gw baca di koran, itu juga gak ampe dalem2 bgt. Lalu, tentang film2, musik, mungkin tv show juga. Whatever comes up to my mind. Terus kenapa gw ngeblog? Mungkin karena gw bosen, mungkin juga karena gw selalu kalah kalo maen game.
